Who Is This Sven?
Who is this Sven perpetrating stereotypes about Swedes for the entertainment of American television viewers? Okay, most of us Swedish men are blondish, tall, strapping and posses an unusually keen sense for design, but we do not all wear longshoremen cable-knit sweaters or ride scooters indoors–imagine what that would do to the floors? Nor would we say things like “Let’s rock and roll!” especially with such vigor. Can this Sven make a perfect Cosmo? Can this Sven remain calm for hours in an inflatable rubber sleep sack? Has this Sven been trained in acupressure so that he can calm any savage beast (and believe me, Myrna the Minx has her moments) by applying pressure to a few points on the bottom of a foot? I think not. This Sven is an affront to Swedish houseboys everywhere. He should never have gotten his own commercial. He will never get his own bag!
